Icicle Seafoods operates a fish processing plant in Larsen Bay. The cannery site has been in use for 100 years. The population swells to 300 people during summer months. A new treatment plant & outfall was required.
DEC requested a computer model of the mixing zone. Model analysis included outfall depth, location in the channel, as well as geometry of port diffusers. Current speeds, tidal mixing, salinity, temperature, dissolved oxygen were determined & entered into the model.
The computer model defined a mixing zone based on parameters of dilution. A new wastewater plant was designed & is successfully operating.
